Epic is a state-of-the-art clinical information system.  Built on the widely-used Epic software application, the system encompasses all aspects of a patient’s care - clinical and business-related.

The goal for implementing Epic at Stanford is to transform the care experience for patients, physicians and staff.  After significant preparation, the first of many go-lives took place on April 25, 2008 with the implementation of the hospital’s clinical applications. Over the years, the implementation of Epic at Stanford has been an exercise in cultural integration which unifies our focus on the patient experience. By sharing in the design and use of a single tool, we can focus on how we work together. This has quickened the pace of change at all levels of our institution. It has forged new levels of cooperation and collaboration between physicians, nursing, staff and hospital leadership. We are proud of our recognition as leaders in the advanced adoption of these technologies.
